Classic Upgrades End on November 30, 2027

Classic upgrades remain available until November 30, 2027. After that, new GrandTotal versions are available as a subscription only. Existing Classic licenses are not affected — they remain valid without any time limit.

The Reason: EU Cyber Resilience Act

On December 11, 2027, the EU Cyber Resilience Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/2847) becomes fully applicable. From that date on, every software license sold comes with new manufacturer obligations: free security updates over a multi-year support period, a conformity assessment, and continuously maintained technical documentation. What counts is the date the license is sold — not the date the software was released.

Why Does This Affect Classic and Not the Subscriptions?

Subscriptions include ongoing updates anyway; the new obligations largely match what the subscription already delivers.

Classic works differently: pay once, keep the purchased major version permanently. Every Classic license sold after the deadline would create an obligation to supply that exact major version with security updates for years — in parallel with the current version and every version released in between. Rather than maintaining many frozen version branches side by side, development is concentrated on one current, maintained version. That is why the sale of Classic upgrades ends before the deadline.

Does This Also Apply Outside the EU?

Yes. GrandTotal is developed and sold as one product for all markets — only a very small share of Classic upgrades goes to countries outside the EU. A separate sales channel for them would require exactly the parallel maintenance of old versions that this step brings to an end.

What Does This Mean for Classic Licenses?

Nothing changes for existing licenses: they remain valid without any time limit, older versions can still be downloaded from the compatibility page, and support remains available.

Until November 30, 2027, one last upgrade to the current major version is still possible — as usual, directly from the app.
